What the little girl saw in the well

Playing with Life

At times, I feel a need arise to become more childlike in my relationship with Life, to simplify, to accept the limits of language and thought and feeling and know that these limitations are means of Life to know and enjoy Life. The boundaries of thought are themselves ways of knowing the Thought-less. I conclude we are here, not to understand Life, but to play with and enjoy Life. Children seem innately to know this.

A little girl asked, "Where does God live?"

The Sage replied, "Do you truly want to see where God lives?"

"Yes, I sure do!"

"Let's walk over to the well," said he.

When at the well, he picked up the little one and held her over the opening. "Now, look into the well." She looked into the well.

Letting the girl down onto the ground, the Sage asked, "And what did you see?"

"I saw myself."

"That, my little friend, is where God lives."

Kabir says...

I laugh when I hear that the fish in the water is thirsty

You don't grasp the fact that what is most alive of all
is inside your own house.
and so you walk from one holy city to the next with
a confused look!

Kabir will tell you the truth: go wherever you like,
to Calcutta or Tibet;
if you can't find where your soul is hidden,
for you the world will never be real!

If we say "God is within me,"
we say "God is outside me."

This is knowing Spirit is
everywhere.

Yet, to realize the Intimacy everywhere,
we affirm "God is within me."

To enjoy the Intimacy within us,
we commune with Spirit inside and outside us.

The Communion ~ like leaf absorbing Sun,
we and God are two, yet one.
